So here we are, its Wednesday and I'm to spend over £100 on lights right. Like shineey flat amazing LED light panels like dis

A2 slim light panel (for 2persons)

MEGGA DROOL

So on to today’s topic of conversation; (which is going to be based on my lecture yesterday by a Mr JACK DUPLOCK)

CONTEMPORARY SUBLIME

lets start by setting the mood

The sublime (from the Latin sublÄ«mis "sloping up to the lintel, uplifted, high, lofty, elevated, exalted") is the quality of greatness or vast magnitude, whether physical, moral, intellectual, metaphysical, aesthetic, spiritual or artistic.

The term especially refers to a greatness with which nothing else can be compared and which is beyond all possibility of calculation, measurement or imitation.

And of course we all know what contemporary means right!!

Ahah so onwards

To start off with let’s have a looky see what types of sublime experiences you may encounter

Nature
Where you are faced with the edge of a cliff or the sun setting over the ocean

In Technology
Where in the advancements in technology lead us to experience things like dis

and create things like this

In the un-representable
I.E. things that cannot be explained through a language known to us
(I don’t have an image for that one for obvious reasons)
*feeling of something great*

Transcendence

You get the idea

Terror
Where you are bought to the crescendo of the unnameable fears in our consciousness

In the altered state

(Not gonna lie; I’m talking about drugs)
Or if you’re Hindu we’re talking about enlightenment.
Where you see the world differently and it is like a new birth

IN PERSPECTIVE

Nazis created images of human sublime where people were amassed at rallies to enhance feeling of being the greatest and part of a thing bigger than themselves

Nuremberg

Similar to this:

North Korea now

  Fascism and Extreme leftism
-similar in the end?

------------

In the west the sublime is used to sell perfume and aftershave

LYNX

TOM FORD

NOT sublime but she is damn sexy

Guy who directed A single man

Which to be fair is just a long perfume advert

(fail)

And so the language of the sublime is commodified

Just like everything else in the world right

 I digress

In religion
 the sublime may mean reaching
GOD
Or
Finding your true self

In paintings that address the sublime
This usually happens

Emptiness

The sublime recognises thought and turmoil about the edge
And what is on the other side

(something I dug up about loonies who have 'spiritually awakened')

This is at complete odds with Beauty

Which is about pleasure and contentment

okay we can all say this is a beautiful painting

can you ever truly combine to two

to make a painting that addresses the transcendent reaching for the edge whilst portraying the balance and harmony in aesthetic beauty

should I go off and investigate Beauty?

I think I should

'CHOICE IS EXPENSIVE'

First things First
Maybe this will seem like a bit like brown nosing
( not intended but it wont hurt right!)

my elective lecture-rer Mr Kearney who has been leading my digital environments electives at camberwell;
 is a really good lecture-rer ..

having not really understood the nature of the lectures
(due to my tardiness last year and a lack of research)
I turned up not sure what to expect.

I know I was not the only one in our class to have
found ourselves thrust in to Mr Kearney class
like lambs to the digital slaughter.

None of it

The lectures were engaging, interesting and above all totally relevant. How could I possibly not connect with the subject. We; I and you reading this post are all subject ( and I think mostly infantile in our knowledge and understanding) to the influences of technology on our psyche and society. Kearney eloquently explained in a language that I am familiar with,(using video and and interacting with us online the impact being online will  make in the development of the world.

Thats BIG ideas

Never mind how the internet will affect art .
How will it affect our futures (our babies!!)

I found the digital electives informative to the point of life changing.

Having found out that the electives will be stopped after this years done leaves me feeling like fuck

how can they do that, I would never have been exposed otherwise. What about everyone else?

So here is my assessed video
for all my learned knowledge from
Digital Environments I cannot stop
 my poor laptop from dying

The product of my inadequacies

literally, computer broke down, I didnt know how to upload ..

just baad times ha ha

and the video I made for digital environments
(which admittedly is a bit poo)
not as good as the one above

Space: the final frontier

HaHa  A New Year ey?!

Well Im ready for it! LOOK out for me.. I will be posting, regularly.
Bringing you the latest in the world changing bits and pieces I cough up and shit out ;P

Last year was interesting enough, lots of ups and downs and for the most part my work has been veeerrry wishy washy.

This term though
*stands behind a podium*
 I HAVE A PLAN

(not so much of a world changing plan as Mr I Have A Dream)
but
It should be good - soo keep watching

Heres a little photo of something I started last month and has just  dried

I LIKE PINK! :D

so anyway gonna do some engraving on the smooth side (cos its not so smooth, its acctually really scratched and not very nice. we're just gonna hide that)

Im not sure If what I'ma carve out will
- detract from the lovely colours and textures
-If what I intend to carve will look like, should I follow some of the line work on the painting?

Things to think about ..... ta ta ta

look at dis !!
